Aquaman To Die?

For those of you who aren't following DC Comics mega-event Countdown to Final Crisis are probably not aware that the original plans for the Final Crisis event had the bigger heroes of the DC Universe (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter) kick the bucket and begin the Fifth World. The idea didn't catch on, but with no one to champion their cause in the halls of DC Comics, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter are still on the chopping block.

Normally, death and Aquaman in the same sentence would have me rallying to his defense, but really, this isn't my Aquaman. The one running around right now (Arthur Joseph Curry) ended up getting the Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis book canceled, but he hasn't really been seen since. Yeah, I picked up the Batman and the Outsiders Special featuring Aquaman and Metamorpho, but other than an appearance in Superman/Batman, he hasn't been seen much. And to be honest, if Arthur Joseph Curry is done for, chances are better for a return of Arthur Curry, the true Aquaman.

I don't care how -- let Geoff Johns write the bloody book!! After fixing the mess that was Green Lantern's continuity, Aquaman would be no trouble at all. (I'd love to see the sales on an Aquaman book written by Johns) I hope he'd also find a way to fix Tempest (by getting rid of his marriage to Dolphin and the kid), use Aquagirl, Mera, and Vulko in meaningful ways, and figure out a way to keep the first mini-series (featuring Aquaman's blue camoflage outfit) in continuity.

A guy can dream, can't he?
